VEGA unveils industry first 20m range MCERTS-certified EDM solution
VEGA has introduced the world’s first Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) solution with MCERTS certification across a measuring range of 20 metres. The system provides certified EDM performance over the full range of 0-20m, establishing a new benchmark for wastewater monitoring. [vega.com]
While certification is important, the real significance lies in what a certified 20m measuring range means for water companies and contractors. Monitoring assets across wastewater networks can vary considerably, from shallow overflow chambers to deep storage structures, pumping stations and large sewer assets. Using a single certified technology platform across a wider range of applications helps simplify standardisation, specification and installation.
At the heart of this solution is the VEGAPULS C 21 / C 22 and VEGAPULS 21 / 31. Non-contact radar is particularly suited to wastewater environments because it maintains reliable performance in harsh conditions such as condensation and turbulence.
Additionally, when paired with a VEGAMET controller, the 4-20 mA output can be calibrated across a 5m span anywhere within the radar’s certified 20m measuring range. This allows operators to focus measurement resolution around the most critical operating levels whilst retaining the flexibility of a much wider certified measuring range. The VEGAMET also provides an accurate certified EDM spill alarm relay within the radar level range.

This technology delivers several practical advantages:
- High-accuracy spill detection using relay switching outputs.
- Multiple data reporting options through relay, analogue and HART communications.
- Integration with HART-capable telemetry loggers, PLCs and other monitoring and control systems.
- Colour-changing displays for immediate visual indication when a spill event is occurring.
- Flexible installation options, including the VEGAPULS C 22 with a side-entry cable, ideal for applications where top-entry instals are not an option.
As regulatory scrutiny increases, confidence in monitoring data is exceedingly important. By combining MCERTS EDM performance with an industry-first 20m certified measuring range, VEGA establishes a new standard for EDM, giving the industry greater flexibility, improved data confidence and more consistent monitoring across networks.
