More Functionality, Less Space: Compact Embedded Computing for Medical Equipment
FORTEC UK introduces the Axiomtek CAPA332, combining triple-display support, flexible expansion and efficient Intel® processing to simplify medical equipment integration.
The Axiomtek CAPA332, a compact 3.5-inch single board computer (SBC) designed to give OEMs and system integrators greater flexibility when developing embedded medical equipment.

Powered by Intel® Processor N97 or N150, the CAPA332 combines support for up to three independent displays, dual 2.5GbE connectivity and three M.2 expansion slots within a compact 146 × 104 mm footprint.
One of the CAPA332’s key strengths is its ability to support up to three independent displays through a choice of HDMI, DisplayPort, LVDS and optional eDP interfaces.
For medical equipment manufacturers, this provides greater freedom when selecting and integrating display technologies. A laboratory analyser, for example, may require a primary touchscreen for operation alongside additional displays presenting measurements, diagnostic information or equipment status.
Support for both established and newer display interfaces can also help engineers retain existing display designs when updating embedded computing hardware, potentially reducing the need for additional converter boards and unnecessary redesign.
With a footprint of just 146 × 104 mm, the CAPA332 provides an extensive range of connectivity and expansion options without requiring a large computing platform.
The choice of Intel® N97 or N150 processors allows engineers to balance processing requirements against power consumption and thermal considerations. Combined with support for up to 32GB DDR5-4800 memory, the board provides a practical foundation for medical control interfaces, data acquisition and laboratory instrumentation.
Its flexible 12V and 19–24V DC input options also give developers greater freedom when selecting a suitable power architecture, helping accommodate different system designs. Field based medical equipment manufacturers may also welcome an extended operation range of –20 to 70c
As medical and laboratory equipment becomes increasingly connected, engineers need computing platforms capable of supporting both existing peripherals and emerging communication requirements.
The CAPA332 incorporates dual 2.5GbE LAN ports for high-speed network communication, alongside USB, serial interfaces and programmable digital I/O for connecting external equipment and system functions.
Three M.2 expansion slots provide further flexibility, supporting options for wireless communication, cellular connectivity and high-speed storage.
This enables OEMs to configure the platform around the specific requirements of their equipment, whether that involves connecting laboratory instruments to wider networks, adding wireless functionality or incorporating local data storage.
Onboard TPM 2.0 provides hardware-based security capabilities that can support the wider security architecture of connected medical systems.
With its combination of compact dimensions, flexible display interfaces and extensive connectivity, the Axiomtek CAPA332 offers medical equipment manufacturers a versatile computing platform for developing increasingly connected and space-efficient systems.
FORTEC UK supports OEMs and system integrators with access to embedded computing platforms, TFT displays, PCAP touch technology, optical bonding and medical power solutions
